The short version
Your screenshots are processed on your Mac and are never uploaded. The app has no accounts and no analytics. It only goes online to check your license and to look for updates.
Screenshots
- Text recognition, name detection and face detection run on your Mac using frameworks built into macOS.
- Screenshots you open are never sent anywhere, and the original image is never written to disk by the app.
- When you copy or export a protected image, its protected copy is saved to history in
~/Library/Application Support/HideMyDetails/History. The last 30 are kept. You can turn history off or clear it in Settings.
License checks
Hide My Details uses Polar for licensing. To activate, validate or deactivate your license, the app sends your license key and a random device identifier created when you activated to Polar. These checks happen when the app opens and about once an hour while it runs. Your key and activation are stored in your Mac's Keychain.
Updates
The app checks get.hidemydetails.app for updates once a day using Sparkle. Like any web request, this reveals your IP address to the server. No system profile or usage data is sent.
Purchases
Payments are handled by Polar as the merchant of record. Polar receives the details you enter at checkout and processes them under its own privacy policy. We never see your full payment details.
This website
This website uses no cookies and no analytics. It is hosted on Cloudflare, and loads fonts from Google Fonts and icons from unpkg, which receive your IP address when your browser requests those files.
